Internet Safety

The Internet. It's everywhere. It touches every aspect of our lives. Here are some quick tips on how to stay safe!

  • Keep your computer updated! Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle, etc all release security patches and updates regularly. They don't do this for fun. They have found vulnerabilities in their software, and they're fixing them!
  • Use an updated antivirus! While antivirus software by no means is bulletproof, it will help ward off some malware. The more defense you have, the better.
  • Don't go to just any website! If you're searching for something, check out the link below the search result to make sure it's a reputable site. If you're not sure, check out Web of Trust. It install software that will indicate the site's repuration with a green circle for good and a red circle for bad.
  • Don't give you information to a website that isn't secure! On the left side of where you type in the web address you want to go to, you'll see "https" if the site is encrypted. If it's not encrypted, you'll see a "www" or "http" without the 's'.
  • Don't accept calls from someone claiming to work at Microsoft or other big tech companies. These companies will NOT call you out of the blue. They will use scare tactics in an attempt to gain access to your computer as well as to get you to pay large sums of money to remove a virus that they installed!

These are just a few quick tips. Check out this site for tips to keep kiddos safe on the web!
